Regular Session 2.A 2022-8-SUP - North Austin Ave. Self Storage Public Hearing and possible action on a request for a Special Use Permit to allow for the Indoor Self -Storage use in the General Commercial (C-3) zoning district on the property located at 2815 North Austin Avenue, bearing the legal description of a 1.948 acre tract in the Antonio Flores Survey, Abstract 235 (2022-8-SUP). Ryan Clark, AICP Candidate, Senior Planner Ryan Clark presented the staff report. Commissioner Haynie asked if they have checked the availability of existing storage facilities nearby. Clark established that that is up to the Applicant to establish; City staff analyzes the request based on recommended uses and the Comprehensive Plan. Todd , Applicant, approached the podium to address the Commission and spoke to the existing Novak projects in Georgetown, and noted that this project would be the only climate -controlled self -storage in the immediate area. Todd spoke to the approval criteria, as well as the Comprehensive Plan. Commissioner Dickey asked if City Council had approved the self -storage site on SE Inner Loop. Clark confirmed, yes. Chair Perthuis opened and closed the public hearing with no speakers coming forth. Commissioner Heintzmann commented that this is not conducive with the plans for the area, which is envisioned to have more open space to entice retail. She does not believe it complies with the Comprehensive Plan or land use policies, and she is concerned with the number of storage facilities in town. The applicant requested to postpone this item to a date uncertain. No action was taken by the Commission on this item. Moved by Chere Heintzmann; seconded by to Deny Item 2.A as presented.
