HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_ARTAB_12.15.2020Minutes of the Virtual Meeting of the Arts and Culture Board City of Georgetown, Texas December 15, 2020 The Arts and Culture Board met virtually on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. via Zoom. PRESENT: Jane Estes, Susie Flatau, Gaby Shultz, Marissa Palmer, Sharon Snuffer, and Jessica Meurer-Sobhani. ABSENT: Sonya Robinson STAFF PRESENT: Amanda Still — Arts and Culture Coordinator, Eric P. Lashley — Library Director and Lawren Weiss -Administrative Assistant. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC: None. Chair Estes called the meeting to order at 4:30 P.M. Regular Agenda A. Discussion on how this virtual conference will be conducted to include options for Public comments and how the public may address the commission. -Lawren Weiss, Administrative Assistant. Weiss asked if the board had questions about utilizing Zoom for the virtual meeting. No action required. B. Citizens wishing to address the Board. — Jane Estes, Chair. As of the deadline, no persons were signed up to speak on items other than what was posted on the agenda. No action required. C. Announcements regarding arts and culture. — Jane Estes, Chair. Board members announced upcoming holiday events, virtual events and the re -opening of The Bistro at Lark and Owl. No action required. D. Consideration and possible action to a drove minutes from the November 17, 2020 Arts and Culture Board meeting . — Jane Estes, Chair. Motion by Snuffer; second by Flatau to approve the October 20, 2020 Arts and Culture Board virtual meeting minutes. Approved 6-0 (Robinson absent). E. Consideration and possible action to recommend the top 3 Animal Shelter mural submissions to the Georgetown Animal Shelter board and staff. -Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator. Board members discussed submissions for the Animal Shelter mural. Meurer- Sobhani recused herself from the discussion and voting as she submitted a proposal for the board's consideration. Following much discussion, Palmer moved to recommend the proposals from the following artists to the Animal Shelter board and staff: Jason Tetlak, Jessica Meuer-Sobhani and Luis Angulo. Second by Snuffer; approved 6-0 (Robinson absent). F. Consideration and possible action to award prizes for the 2020-2021 Georgetown Sculpture Tour. -Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator. Following discussion about the newly installed sculpture tour pieces, motion by Meurer-Sobhani; second by Flatau to award first place prize ($1,500) to John Mark Luke for "Interaction of Thought" and second place prize ($750) to Marla Ripperda for "Uncommon Egret". All other artists will receive the honorable mention prize ($500) for each piece in this year's tour. Approved 6-0 (Robinson absent). G. Consideration and possible action to approve a grant application to the TCA for funding support to commission J Muzacz — a registered artist on the TCA Touring Roster - as a collaborating artist for the Art Center Mural. — Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator. Still asked the board to support City staff applying for a Texas Commission on the Arts grant application to commission J Muzacz as a collaborating artist for the Art Center Mural. Motion by Flatua; second by Palmer to approve City staff's application to TCA for a grant for artist stipends. Approved 6-0 (Robinson absent). H. Consideration and possible action to approve funding toward a grant writer for Georgetown Art Works. —Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator and Eric Lashley, Library Director. Still updated the board that Georgetown Art Works had made progress in acquiring strong, new board members. GAW also allocated $5,300 of their own budget to hire a grant writer. Arts and Culture Board members determined the City did not need to fund the request at this time since GAW was able to begin funding the grant writer on their own. Board members were open to revisiting the request after GAW's strategic plan is in place, should GAW still need the assistance. No action taken. Consideration of Arts and Culture Coordinator report. — Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator. Still discussed her report (attached). Topics included upcoming, completed and in -progress projects. No action required. J. Consideration and possible action regarding future meeting dates. — Jane Estes, Board Chair. The next meeting will be held as regularly scheduled on January 19, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. This will be a virtual meeting.
