HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_ARTAB_11.17.2020Minutes of the Virtual Meeting of the Arts and Culture Board City of Georgetown, Texas November 17, 2020 The Arts and Culture Board met virtually on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. via Zoom. PRESENT: Jane Estes, Gaby Shultz, Sharon Snuffer, and Jessica Meurer-Sobhani. ABSENT: Susie Flatau, Marissa Palmer, and Sonya Robinson STAFF PRESENT: Amanda Still —Arts and Culture Coordinator, Eric P. Lashley — Library Director and Lawren Weiss -Administrative Assistant, and Nat Waggoner, Long Range Planning Manager. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC: None. Chair Estes called the meeting to order at 4:30 P.M. Regular Agenda A. Discussion on how this virtual conference will be conducted to include options for public comments and how the public may address the commission. -Lawren Weiss, Administrative Assistant. Weiss asked if the board had questions about utilizing Zoom for the virtual meeting. No action required. B. Citizens wishing to address the Board. — Jane Estes, Chair. As of the deadline, no persons were signed up to speak on items other than what was posted on the agenda. No action required. C. Announcements regarding arts and culture. — Jane Estes, Chair. Georgetown Art Works has a new website, complete with shopping abilities. Still announced that more arts events are being added throughout the City, with COVID safety precautions in place. Some events will be held at East View and Georgetown high schools. No action required. D. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes from the October 20, 2020 Arts and Culture Board meeting. — Jane Estes, Chair. Motion by Snuffer; second by Shultz to approve the October 20, 2020 Arts and Culture Board virtual meeting minutes. Approved 4-0 (Flatau, Palmer and Robinson absent). E. Overview of the updated Georgetown 2030 Master Plan. —Nat Waggoner, Long Range Planning Manager. Waggoner reviewed the updated Georgetown 2030 Master Plan with the Board, highlighting areas for incorporating arts and culture into City planning (attachment). Board members and Waggoner also discussed diversity, gateways & corridors, and housing policies. No action required. F. Consideration and possible action to approve funding_ toward a grant writer for Georgetown Art Works. —Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator and Eric Lashley, Library Director. Board members discussed Georgetown Art Works' request from October's meeting for a funding for a grant writer. The cost of the grant writer would be $650 per month. While the Arts and Culture Board is in support of Georgetown Art Works and their need for a grant writer, there was concern that funding one at this time could be premature as the organization does not yet have a strategic plan. Following much discussion, board members decided not to make a motion on this item until more board members were present to give their input. This item will be included in December's meeting for further discussion and possible action. No action taken. G. Consideration and possible action to approve updated Arts and Culture Grant Guidelines for 2021 Round 1 grant c cle. -Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator. Still reviewed the updated grant guidelines with the board. Board members suggested adding board development and continuing education for non -profits to the call for entries. Following some discussion, motion by Snuffer; second by Meurer-Sobhani to approve the Arts and Culture grant guidelines as amended. Approved 4-0 (Flatau, Palmer and Robinson absent). H. Consideration of Arts and Culture Coordinator report. — Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator. Still discussed her report (attached). Topics included the Healing Arts for Veterans program, Recycled Street Sign sculpture install, and in -progress projects. No action required. Consideration and possible action regarding future meetin dates. — Jane Estes, Board Chair. The next meeting will be held as regularly scheduled on December 15, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. This will be a virtual meeting.
