HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_ARTAB_10.20.2020Minutes of the Virtual Meeting of the Arts and Culture Board City of Georgetown, Texas October 20, 2020 The Arts and Culture Board met virtually on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. via Zoom. PRESENT: Jane Estes, Susie Flatau, Marissa Palmer, Sonya Robinson, Gaby Shultz, and Sharon Snuffer. ABSENT: Jessica Meurer-Sobhani STAFF PRESENT: Amanda Still — Arts and Culture Coordinator, Eric P. Lashley — Library Director and Lawren Weiss -Administrative Assistant. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC: Stuart Wallace Chair Estes called the meeting to order at 4:30 P.M. Regular Agenda A. Discussion on how this virtual conference will be conducted to include options for public comments and how the public may address the commission. -Lawren Weiss, Administrative Assistant. Weiss asked if the board had questions about utilizing Zoom for the virtual meeting. She explained that Stuart Wallace had signed up to address the board on item G and Chair Estes would call on him to speak when the time came. No action required. B. Citizens wishing to address the Board. — Jane Estes, Chair. As of the deadline, no persons were signed up to speak on items other than what was posted on the agenda. Georgetown Art Works President Stuart Wallace signed up to address the board regarding item G. No action required. C. Announcements regarding. arts and culture. — Jane Estes, Chair. No action required. Georgetown Art Works has a new website, complete with shopping abilities. Still is announced that more arts events are being added, with COVID safety precautions in place, which include events at East View High School and Georgetown High School. D. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes from the September 15 2020 Arts and Culture Board meeting. — Jane Estes, Chair. Motion by Robinson; second by Shultz to approve the September 15, 2020 Arts and Culture Board virtual meeting minutes. Approved 6-0 (Meurer-Sobhani absent). E. Overview for new board members of the 2020-2025 Arts and D,,Iture Strategic Plan. — Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator. Still reviewed the Arts and Culture Strategic Plan with the board, noting which goals are already in progress and those that may take more than 5 years to accomplish. No action required. F. Consideration and possible action to approve the Call for Entries for the mural at Georgetown Title. — Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator. Still reviewed the call for entries for the mural at Georgetown Title. The business owner is looking for an abstract proposal to bring vibrant colors and history to the location. The City's Historic Planner researched the history of the site and provided that information to be included in the call and artist proposals. Board members had no amendments to the call. Motion by Robinson; second by Palmer to approve the call for entries for the mural at Georgetown Title Company. Approved 6-0 (Meurer-Sobhani absent). G. Consideration and possible action to rank budget priorities for the 2020-2021 Fiscal Year. - Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator. Still noted proposed projects for the new fiscal year and ask board members to discuss and rank their priorities to help direct staff. Georgetown Art Works President Stuart Wallace requested the board consider funding a grant writer for 12-18 months for their organization. The rate for a grant writer is $650/month and will allow Wallace to focus on other Art Center projects and operations. While Board members were in favor of hiring a grant writer, they strongly advised Georgetown Art Works to first create a strategic plan which would qualify them for more grant opportunities and guide their efforts to better plan for the future of the organization. Still noted she offered to assist the GAW board in creating their strategic plan, which will begin in January. Discussion followed about challenges experienced by Georgetown Art Works and a need to determine the future roles and expectations of each organization in this partnership. Board members further discussed projects and rankings for this fiscal year. The top three priorities were community grants, Sculpture Tour, and marketing. No action was taken on this item and the board requested adding Georgetown Art Works' request for a grant writer to next month's agenda. H. Consideration of Arts and Culture Coordinator report. — Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator. Still discussed her report as included the agenda packet. Topics included the recycled street sign sculpture installation, Healing Arts for Veterans programs, Wolf Ranch mural and a timeline of upcoming projects. No action required. Consideration and possible action regarding future meeting dates. — Jane Estes, Board Chair. The next meeting will be held as regularly scheduled on November 17, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. This will be a virtual meeting.
