HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_ARTAB_02.18.2020Minutes of the Meeting of the Arts and Culture Board City of Georgetown, Texas February 18, 2020 The Arts and Culture Board met on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. in Classroom 211 on the second floor of Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. 8th Street. Present: Jane Estes, Susie Flatau, Tim Fleming, Laura Sewell, Sharon Snuffer, and Linda Wilde. Absent: Carol Watson Staff present: Amanda Still — Arts and Culture Coordinator, Eric P. Lashley — Library Director and Lawren Weiss -Administrative Assistant. Chair Estes called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. Regular Agenda A. Citizens wishing to address the board. —Jane Estes, Chair. None were present. No action required. B. Announcements regarding arts and culture. — Jane Estes, Chair. Board members announced upcoming events for Georgetown Art Works, Southwestern University, Georgetown ISD and Lark and Owl Booksellers. Board members introduced themselves to Marissa Palmer and Jessica Meurer-Sobhani who will officially join as members of the Board in March. No action required. C. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes from the January 21, 2020 Arts and Culture Board meeting. -Jane Estes, Chair. No discussion necessary. Motion by Wilde; second by Fleming to approve the January 21, 2020 minutes as distributed. Approved 6-0 (Watson absent). D. Consideration and possible action to adopt the final version of the updated Georgetown Arts and Culture Strategic Plan 2020-2025 -Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator. Board members previously reviewed updates to the strategic plan following a retreat to discuss the changes. Board members commended Still on her work on the project and changes made to modernize the plan. Motion by Sewell; second by Wilde to adopt the updated Arts and Culture Strategic Plan, Approved 6-0 (Watson absent). E. Consideration acid possible action to present an honors award to Dr. and Mrs. Ellsworth Peterson —Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley and Estes explained they had received a request from a citizen who recommends providing a proclamation for Mrs. Peterson's contributions to arts and culture in the community. Due to rapidly declining health concerns, staff are hesitant to request a proclamation from the Mayor at this time, in an effort to provide privacy to the family. Board members discussed creating an annual award in the Petersons' name to honor the accomplishments of the couple and also assist local organizations. Discussion continued about the possibility of allocating grant funds in future budget processes in the couple's name to create an Excellence in the Arts award. Board members and staff discussed submitting a budget request to the City for a certain amount to create this award. Staff asked the board to consider award amounts and options moving forward to bring to future planning. No action taken. F. Consideration of Arts and Culture Coordinator report. -Amanda Still, Arts and Culture Coordinator. Still reviewed her monthly report with the board regarding public art programs and projects (attached). Topics included murals, Red Poppy Festival, and sculpture donations. No action required. G. Consideration and possible action regarding future meeting dates. -Jane Estes, Chair. Following discussion of Spring Break schedules, motion by Sewell to change the next meeting to March 10 at 4:30 pm in the library. Second by Wilde. Approved 6-0 (Watson absent). H. Adjourn to Lark & Owl Booksellers for board member farewell event. -Jane Estes, Chair. Chair Estes adjourned the meeting at 5:12 p.m. Staff, board members exiting the board, and new board members were invited to participate in a farewell appreciation event at Lark and Owl Booksellers. No action required.
