The City Council of the city ,of Georgetown, Texas, met in'special
called session on this date, to discuss further the paxxdx prop-
osition previously presented the council by the Southwest Telephone
Company of Georgetown, pertaining to the raising of telephone rates
of the telephone system within this city. Mayor M. F. Smith, pre-
sididi and the following Aldermen and officers were present: Ald-
ermen F. B. Buchholz, J. R. Chastain, J. C. Godbey, C.C. Hamilton
and S. E. Wilcox, comprising the entire council. Officers'present
were W. H. Nunn, city attorney and M. L. Cates, secretary.
In addition to the above there were present a number of business
men of Georgetown, who heard Mr. A. G. Davidson, commercial sales
supervisor for the telephone company, and Mr. Raul Anderson, manager
of the local exchange explain a financial statement of the company,on
the basis of which, in complying with the Mage and"Hours Law, wxxkl
the company desires the City Council to permit a raise of the .Ge'orge-
town exchange subscription rates, because of the increase of $2500.00
per annum the compliance of the new law will exact from the company.
Aftmrttonsiderable discussion by all present, Alderman F. B.'Buchholz
moved that the mayor appoint a committee, the duty of which shall be
to employ a competent accountant who will be sent to Brownwood, the
business offthe of the Southwest Telephone Company to check the books
of the company in order that the Council .shall have an unbiased -
report of the finances of the local exchange, in order that at future
meetings of the council, fair and impartial judgment of the Councilman
may be rendered.
On motion of Alderman Chastain, seconded by Alderman C. C. Hamilton
the mayor was authorized to set a date for the next' meeting of the
Council, at which further consideration may be given the above
aata proposition.
