Regular Session
Members present: Kelly Thyssen (Chairperson), Susanne Paclebar (Acting Secretary), Mary
Treuter, Lyle Warden DVM, Anna Eby,
Members Absent: Michael Simpson, Micki Rundell
Staff Present: April Haughey, Shawn Gunnin
Guest: Capt. Evelyn McLean
Meeting called to order at 6:04 pm by Kelly Thyssen
1. Citizens comments
None.
2. Introduce new shelter director- K. Thyssen
New shelter manager April Haughey was introduced.
3. Approval of minutes from January 2017 advisory board meeting – K. Thyssen
Motion to approve minutes from the January meeting made by Mary Treuter, seconded
by Lyle Warden, passed by unanimous vote.
4. Review and discussion about the Animal shelter statistical report for January 2017 – K.
Thyssen
Presentation of the animal services statistical and analytical report for January. Noted
that Austin Pets Alive took 20 cats, including some that tested positive with FIV. Also
noted that YTD dogs returned to owner is high at 47%.
5. Discuss outcome of the management meeting with Petsmart – K. Thyssen
Jackie Carey and Jessie Pierce met to discuss relationship and came to an agreement
to continue bringing shelter cats to their location for adoption, with specific instructions
for both parties related to communication between shelter and PetSmart employees as
well as cat care and health concerns.
6. Discuss and build outline/presentation for Presentation to City Council for Animal Shelter
Needs Assessment Study – K. Thyssen
Discussion of the Needs Assessment Study by Kelly and Mary highlighted the points to
present to the city council.
