Historic and Architectural Review Commission Meeting Sign Subcommittee
Minutes
Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 5:30 p.m.
Council and Courts Building

Members present: Nancy Knight, Chair; Richard Mee and Mary Jo Winder
Commissioners absent: none
Staff present: Matt Synatschk, Historic Planner; Laurie Brewer, Assistant City Manager; and Karen Frost,
Recording Secretary.
A. Call to Order by Knight at 5:36 p.m. with the reading of the meeting procedures.
* Those who speak must turn in a speaker form, located at the back of the room, to the recording
secretary before the item that they wish to address begins. Each speaker will be permitted to address the
Commission one time only for a maximum of three (3) minutes.
This Regular Session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose
authorized by the Open Meeting Act, Texas Government Code 551.
Legislative Agenda:
B. Consideration and possible approval of the minutes of the June 26, 2014 sign subcommittee meeting.
Motion by Mee to approve the minutes as presented. Second by Winder. Approved 3 ‐0.
C. Public Hearing and possible action on a request for a Certificate of Design Compliance (CDC) for
signage for the property located at 312 West University Avenue, bearing the legal description of
Dalrymple Addition, Block E, lot 1, 2 (N/PT), .1656 acres. (CDC‐2014‐026)
Synatschk presented the staff report. The applicant seeks a Certificate of Design Compliance for
signage for the office building located at 312 West University Avenue. The request includes refacing
and maintaining the freestanding monument sign located in front of the structure. Ray Shawley,
agent for the applicant, was present for questions. There were no questions by the commissioners.
Knight opened the Public Hearing and with no speakers coming forth, closed the hearing.
Winder commented that she feels this application meets the intent of the Design Guidelines. Mee
stated this proposed signage looks better than the previous signage.
Motion by Winder to approve CDC‐2014‐026 for 312 West University as submitted. Second by
Mee. Approved 3 – 0.
D. Public Hearing and possible action on a request for a Certificate of Design Compliance (CDC) for
signage for the property located at 610 South Main Street, bearing the legal description of City of
Georgetown, Block 38, Lot 5 (S/PT), .0895 acres. (CDC‐2014‐025)
Synatschk presented the staff report. The applicant seeks a Certificate of Design Compliance for
signage for the retail building located at 610 South Main Street. The request includes the installation
of a hanging sign underneath the canopy and a portable sign to be placed on the sidewalk during
business hours. Staff recommends approval. Ray Shawley, agent for the applicant, was present for

questions.
Knight opened the Public Hearing and with no speakers coming forth, closed the hearing.
Knight questioned the sturdiness of the freestanding sign. Shawley assured that it would survive the
elements and be weighted down for security. Synatchk explained this sign would be similar to the
Visitors Center sign.
Motion by Winder to approve CDC‐2014‐025 as submitted. Second by Mee. Approved 3 – 0.
Adjournment. Motion by Winder to adjourn the meeting. Knight adjourned the meeting at 5:46 p.m.
