for 2010/2011 supports $14,000 increase of $17,000 requested increase. There is not
allowance for the two (2) requested part time employees in the initial budget plan.
Pursuant discussion of staffing, the board authored the following motion.
Whereas we are in difficult economic time, increases in city department budgets using
city tax funds is impractical, we make a motion to authorize Jackie Carey to meet with
Micki Rundell to arrange for allocation of up to $25,000 of donation funds per year, for a
maximum of two (2) budget years to supplement animal shelter services. This
authorization is to be reviewed annually.
The motion was made by Christy Hullum, seconded by Mike Simpson, and passed
unanimously.
3. Approval of minutes from April Advisory Board meeting – Motion was made to
approve by Patty Eason, second by Jackie Carey and approved unanimously.
4. Presentation of Animal Services statistical and analytical report for April 2010 –
Jackie Carey reviewed the reports for April 2010. Intakes continue to trend in a positive
direction.
Notable observations include no adoptable animals were euthanized in April, 5 cats and
5 dogs were pulled from Wilco to support the adoption population, the Frost Field Day
T-shirts fundraiser yielded $1,234, and the Garage Sale brought in $6100 which was
split with Georgetown Animal Outreach. Red Poppy Festival event placed 11 puppies.
General maintenance at shelter has been conducted and some of the intended
expenditures from prior fund-raisers have been ordered, including the sun shade.
Organizational changes in the police organization include new Police Chief Wayne
Nero, and Animal Shelter Director Jackie Carey now reports to Interim Captain David
Morgan in the police department.
5. Discussion and possible action about Friends of the Animal Shelter
Jackie Carey reported an initial meeting with the Georgetown Animal Outreach (GOA)
organization to focus efforts around the GOA as a 501.3c non-profit organization to
accept charitable donations. There were suggestions to change to Shelter SOP to
include recommending pet adaptors become members of GOA. The next meeting with
GOA is scheduled for June 19.
6. Discussion about improvement made at the Animal Shelter – Jackie Carey
reported that several of the improvements identified as objectives of prior fundraisers
have been ordered and should be in place in the next several weeks. It was suggested
that the next Advisory Board Meeting be held at the Animal Shelter for first hand review
of the improvements.
