Regular Meeting
Meeting called to order at 6:02 p.m. by Chair, Shawn Gunnin.
1. Christy Hullum, the new Advisory Board Member, was introduced by Shawn Gunnin.
2. Citizen comments – none.
3. June 2006 minutes – Motion by Shawn Gunnin to accept the minutes as presented. Second by
Debbie Frase. Minutes were accepted unanimously.
4. Report from Shelter Director – Ken Finn reported on the statistics for animal services for the month
of July. Cat captures and euthanizations numbers remain at a seasonal high. However, Ken stated that
this is expected during the summer months. Good progress on production of the shelter calendar
continues. Because almost all the costs for production have been covered with pledges, income from
calendars sales should be nearly all profit. The shelter management added a Shelter Technician to
replace the one who resigned earlier this summer.
5. Discussion of proposed changes to city animal ordinances – The issue is on the agenda for the
city council workshop scheduled for 21 August at the council chambers. Shawn Gunnin will present the
proposals to the city council at the workshop.
6. Discussion and possible action on review of Standard Operating Procedure revisions –
Discussion on final approval of the Shelter SOP was initiated by Ken Finn. Erica Haley requested
changing the procedure for use of bleach cleaning solution to insure a new mixture was made prior to the
start of each cleaning session. The requested change was made to the SOP and Ken Finn motioned to
accept the revised SOP. Second, Debbie Frase. The motion passed unanimously.
7. Discussion about disaster preparedness – Captain Roland Waits of the Georgetown Police
Department gave an initial presentation on the need for the city of Georgetown to begin developing a plan
for implementing the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards (PETS) Act, recently passed by the
U.S. Congress. This will be a cooperative effort between the Animal Shelter Advisory Board and the
Police Department and will be taken up at future Board meetings.
Meeting adjourned by chair at 6:32 p.m.
