Minutes
Regular Meeting
Meeting called to order at 6:02 p.m. by Chair, Shawn Gunnin.
1. Citizen comments – none.
2. August 2006 minutes – Motion by Shawn Gunnin to accept the minutes as presented. Second by
Keith Fruge. Minutes were accepted unanimously.
3. Report from Shelter Director – Ken Finn reported on the statistics for animal services for the month
of August. Ken stated that efforts by a private group to neuter feral cat colonies seem to be having a
positive effect by reducing the number of impounded strays. Good progress on the production of the
shelter calendar continues with printing scheduled within the week and available to the public in 2-3
weeks. The calendar effort is already profitable as the result of a large amount of pledges made by
various parties.
4. Update and possible action on proposed City Ordinance revisions – Shawn Gunnin presented the
proposals to the city council at a workshop on August 21. The proposal received favorable responses
from the council and the effort continues with the city staff.
5. Discussion and possible action on Texas Department of Health survey results related to animal
control – Ken Finn provided a copy of the Summary of Animal Care and Control Statistics in Texas for
2004 for the board members and gave a verbal summary of the report. Overall, the Georgetown shelter’s
performance was much better than for comparable communities in the state.
6. Update and possible action on Shelter security – Debbie Frase updated the board on continuing
action concerning shelter security. The Georgetown Police Department will provide personnel to perform
a security audit of the shelter and provide a report of the results.
7. Discussion and possible action on disaster preparedness planning – Ken Finn handed out
materials developed by the Humane Society of the United States on disaster planning for animals. Board
members are requested to read the material prior to the next meeting. Ken motioned for an action to have
the board develop a draft disaster preparedness plan by the time of the December 2006 board meeting.
Shawn seconded the motion which passed unanimously.
Meeting adjourned by chair at 6:31 p.m.
