Johnson, and Nancy Knight Members Absent: none Staff Present: Robbie Wyler, Historic District Planner; and Karen Frost, Recording Secretary The meeting was called to order by Chair, Tommy Gonzalez at 4:01 p.m. The Historic and Architectural Review Commission Sign Subcommittee is responsible for hearing and taking final action on sign applications, by issuing Certificates of Design Compliance based upon the City Council adopted Downtown Design Guidelines. This is a regular scheduled meeting of the Sign Subcommittee, for consideration and possible action on the following: 1. Review and possible approval of the minutes from the October 9, 2008 Sign Subcommittee meeting. Motion by Johnson to approve the minutes. Second by Knight. Approved 2 – 0. 2. Consideration and possible action on a request for a Certificate of Design Compliance for signage at Sparks Addition, Block 1, Lot 7, located at 1905 S. Austin Avenue. (CDC-2008-039) Wyler presented the application, citing the Guidelines that supported the staff recommendation of approval. The applicants is seeking approval of a new flush-mounted wall sign to be located on the front of the building facing Austin Avenue as well as vinyl lettering on two entrances. Gonzalez questioned the backlit lighting and the commissioners discussed the possibility of another sign for the other tenant. Wyler stated no other applications have been submitted. The church, other tenant, sign will not interfere with the location of this sign. Motion by Knight to approve the Certificate of Design Compliance for 1905 S. Austin Ave. as submitted. Second by Johnson. Approved 2 – 0. 3. Consideration and possible action on a request for a Certificate of Design Compliance for signage at Cody Addition Block I, Lots 1 and 2(pt), located at 1201 S. Church Street. (CDC- 2008-040) Wyler presented the application. The applicant is seeking approval of two new restaurant signs that will replace the existing hanging sign. He gave a list of the guidelines that supported the staff recommendation of approval. Motion by Johnson to approve the Certificate of Design Compliance for the signs as submitted. Second by Knight. Approved 2 – 0.
