Historic and Architectural Review Commission Sign Subcommittee Meeting
Minutes
Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 5:30 p.m.
City Council Chambers, located at 101 E. 7th Street
Georgetown, TX 78626
Members Present: Tommy Gonzalez, Chair; J.C. Johnson, and Nancy Knight
Members Absent: none
Staff Present: Robbie Wyler, Historic District Planner; and Karen Frost, Recording Secretary
The meeting was called to order at 5:39 p.m. by Chair Gonzalez.
The Historic and Architectural Review Commission Sign Subcommittee is responsible for
hearing and taking final action on sign applications, by issuing Certificates of Design
Compliance based upon the City Council adopted Downtown Design Guidelines. This is a
regular scheduled meeting of the Sign Subcommittee, for consideration and possible action on
the following:
1. Review and possible approval of the minutes from the July 24, 2008 Sign Subcommittee
meeting.
Motion by Johnson to approve. Second by Knight. Motion approved 2 – 0.
2. Consideration and possible action on a request for a Certificate of Design Compliance for
signage at City of Georgetown, Block 40, Lot 1-4 located at 114 East 7th Street, Suite #105.

Wyler presented the staff report and listed the supporting guidelines. Staff recommends
approval of the sign. Knight questioned the use of this sign material elsewhere on the
square. Wyler stated that the painted metal sign material was in use elsewhere on the
square. There was discussion of the type of lighting to be used. Knight did not like the
lighting or the sign type.
Johnson made a motion to approve the sign as recommended by staff. Motion died for lack
of second.
Motion by Knight to take this item to the full commission. Second by Johnson. The
commissioners voted to take this item to the following full commission regular meeting at
6:00, with a vote of 2 – 0.
The Subcommittee may forward these items to the next meeting of the Historic and
Architectural Review Committee for its consideration. That meeting is scheduled for September
25, 2008.
