The Animal Shelter Advisory Board of the City of Georgetown, Texas, met on Thursday , March 16, 2006.
Members Present:
Shawn Gunnin, Chair and Secretary, Debbie Frase, Erica Haley, Dawn Hitt-Wilken
Members Absent:
Patty Eason, Ken Finn, Keith Fruge

Minutes
Regular Meeting
Meeting called to order at 6:05 p.m. by Chair, Shawn Gunnin.
1. Citizen comments – none.
2. Change to order of agenda – Motion by Dawn Hitt-Wilken, and second by Debbie Frase, to move
“discussion and possible action about long and short term goals for the Animal Shelter” to be next on the
agenda. Motion passed unanimously.
3. Discussion and possible action about long and short-term goals for the Animal Shelter --
Guests Christie Sponsel and Michelle Parada facilitated a discussion about the long and short-term goals
for Animal Services, as developed at previous meetings. The Board identified industry trends, threats,
opportunities, strengths, weaknesses and strategies, and then reached a consensus on prioritizing the
goals previously identified. The Board agreed to develop objectives for each goal at future meetings
without the assistance of the facilitators, and thanked Sponsel and Parada for their help to date.
4. February 2006 minutes – Motion by Debbie Frase to accept the minutes as presented. Second, Erica
Haley. Motion passed unanimously.
5. Election of Officers – Gunnin moved that Debbie Frase be elected Vice Chair, and that election of a
Secretary be postponed until more members were present. Hitt-Wilken seconded, and the motion passed
unanimously.
6. HSUS Task Force Update – Frase reported on the creation of the task force to review the HSUS
recommendations. There are seven members on the task force, with Gina Benner as Chair, Frase as
Co-Chair, and Amanda Dennis as Secretary. It was suggested by a member of the task force that
sub-committees be formed to address all the sections of the HSUS report and as of now, the task force is
meeting twice a month.
7. Report from Shelter Director – Gunnin moved to table the Director’s Report, given his absence.
Haley seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
8. Discussion and possible action about the next educational column for the newspaper – Haley
offered to write the next column for the Williamson County Sun on heartworm and other parasites.
Gunnin’s column on basic Shelter information is ready to submit and should appear in the newspaper
soon.
Gunnin moved to adjourn, Frase seconded. Meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
