Historic and Architectural Review Commission Sign Subcommittee Meeting
Minutes
Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.
City Council Chambers, located at 101 E. 7th St.
Georgetown, TX 78626
Members: Tommy Gonzalez; J. C. Johnson; Nancy Knight
Staff present: Robbie Wyler, Historic District Planner; Karen Frost, Recording Secretary
Meeting opened by Gonzalez at 5:05 p.m.
The Historic and Architectural Review Commission Sign Subcommittee is responsible for
hearing and taking final action on sign applications, by issuing Certificates of Design
Compliance based upon the City Council adopted Downtown Design Guidelines. This is a
regular scheduled meeting of the Sign Subcommittee, for consideration and possible action on
the following:
1. Review and possible approval of the minutes from the December 13, 2007 Sign
Subcommittee meeting.
Motion by Johnson to approve the minutes. Second by Gonzalez. Approved 2 – 0. (Knight
not in place yet.)
2. Consideration and possible action on a request for a Certificate of Design Compliance for
signage at Glasscock Addition, Block 10, Lots 1-2, 7-8, and 3-6 (PTS) located at 703 S. Church
Street. (CDC-2007-039)
Nancy Knight arrived. Wyler presented the application. No questions.
Motion by Johnson to approve the sign as presented. Second by Knight. Approved 3 – 0.
3. Consideration and possible action on a request for a Certificate of Design Compliance for
additional signage at City of Georgetown, Block 51, Lot 8(s/PT), located at 823 S. Austin
Avenue. (CDC-2007-040)
Wyler presented the application. The applicant wants to add a projecting sign from the
corner column, perpendicular to Austin Avenue. Motion by Johnson to approve the
application. Second by Knight. Approved 3 – 0.
4. Consideration and possible action on a request for a Certificate of Design Compliance for
signage at Glasscock Addition, Block 22 1/2, Lot 1 and 2 (PT), located at 1104 S. Church
Street. (CDC-2007-044)
Wyler presented the application. The owner was present and said the application was for
replacing existing sign faces. No questions from the dais. Motion by Knight to approve the
application as presented. Second by Johnson. Approved 3 – 0.
5. Consideration and possible action on a request for a Certificate of Design Compliance for
signage at City of Georgetown, Block 41, Lot 1(PT), located at 700 S. Austin Avenue. (CDC-
2007-045)
Wyler presented the application. The owner, Steve Quenan was present and answered

clarifying questions from the Commissioners about the application. Motion by Knight to
approve the application for signage as applied, with the caveat that if the applicant chooses to
remove the lettering from the awnings, that the applicant will seek staff approval prior to
having the sign made, and that staff will have the option to approve administratively at that
point. Second by Johnson. Approved 3 – 0.
The Subcommittee may forward these items to the next meeting of the Historic and
Architectural Review Committee for its consideration. That meeting is scheduled for January 24,
2008.
None of the items listed above were forwarded to the regular Commission meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 5:28 p.m. by Chair Gonzalez.
