Chair Charles Aguillon called the meeting to order at 5:45 p.m. B. There were no announcements regarding upcoming events. C. There were no citizens wishing to address the Board. D. Philip Baker moved to accept the minutes of the July 20, 2010 meeting as distributed; Dar Richardson seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. E. Consideration of and possible action on 1. Report on Arts and Culture Board budget — Eric Lashley. Eric asked Charles to read the letter he had received from City Manager Paul Brandenburg. The letter stated that the Council did not approve any funding for the Arts and Culture Board during the FY 10 -11 budget process. It is possible that if economic conditions in Georgetown improve, the Board may receive an allocation at mid -year (March 2011). After hearing this news, Mandy suggested that the Board notify the organizations that received grants this year to let them know that there will be no money available in the coming year. They should be advised to participate in the upcoming focus groups about the proposed Arts Center. Karen Lange had to leave at 6:00 p.m. 2. Southwestern University /3M grant — Eric Lashley. Eric still has not heard from Ben Pierce at Southwestern. Eric understands that Southwestern must spend the money by the end of August, so he is expecting to receive a check very soon. 3. Sculvture Tour and Texas Societv of Sculptors (TSOS) annual show at the library — Dar Richardson. Dar handed out information about both of these projects that outlined the Board's financial commitment for each and how that money would be spent (attached and made a part of these minutes). He estimated that $1800 would be needed to pay the honorariums and install pedestals for the additional 10 to 12 sculptures he expects will be installed in late September /early October. He suggested a more substantial "opening" than the one we had this year for this show should be held, perhaps in conjunction with next summer's TSOS show at the library. Dar also arulounced that Kaki Bassi has joined TSOS and has agreed to coordinate next year's show at the library, which is scheduled for July - September 2011. He believes that offering more cash prizes (a total of $2800) will attract more artists for 2011. The artists' entry fees and the $1365 that the Arts and Culture Board agreed to contribute will cover the prizes and the expenses associated with the show. Dar made a motion to increase by $365 the appropriation the Board made last month to support the two projects. Kaki seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. There was a brief discussion about a map for the Sculpture Tour. Kaki agreed to do the design work to create a document that can be placed on the arts website. Judy and Eric will get a Parks map for her to work from. Dar pointed out that he and Kaki will not be on the Board forever and that the sculpture projects need to be viewed as Board projects, not Dar's projects. Other Board members need to begin participating now so that they will be familiar with what needs to be done. 4. Application for Cultural District Designation — Charles Aguillon. There was nothing new on this topic. Charles and Eric may go to Austin to visit with Jim Bob McMillan, deputy director of the Texas Commission on the Arts, about Georgetown's eligibility for TCA's grant program. 5. Charles Aguillon asked that the following items appear on the Board's September agenda: arranging for Mayor Garver to declare October the month of the arts in Georgetown; rescheduling the October Board meeting to the 2nd week in October.
