Members Present: Mike Simpson (chair), Laura Hobgood-Oster (secretary), Mary Treuter, Christine Albanese, Max Mixson, Jerry Hammerlun Members Absent: Lyle Warden Staff Present: Jackie Carey, Evelyn McLean Minutes Regular Meeting Guest Present: Diane Coker 1.Citizen Comments: none 2. Approval of minutes: Minutes from the July meeting were approved – L. Hobgood-Oster 3. Presentation of Animal Services Statistics: J. Carey Jackie reported that we had a good July with 112 animal adopted, well over the norm. A meeting early in the month with shelter volunteers (Laura Hobgood-Oster, Miguel DaCunha), shelter staff (Jackie Carey, Max Mixson) and city staff (Erin MacDonald, Keith Hutchinson) to up the shelter’s presence in social media, along with special adoption fees, are some of the possible reasons for the good month. The euthanasia rate held at 9%. Jackie also reported that there was a slight crash with Chameleon that the staff is addressing. Jackie spoke to the Sertoma Club as well. Also, the shelter is getting 20 more hours in kennel tech funding for next year. From Friends fundraising efforts, a new water softener and dishwasher have both been installed. Upcoming Friends activities include a wine tasting, Art for Animals (in February), an Open House (in December) and a dog event at the Holiday Stroll. 4. Discussion and possible action on requirements of retail pet sales – L. Hobgood-Oster Laura went over the new wording for the ordinance. Jackie and Jerry will forward the new wording to the city attorney and ask that it be a priority. The advisory board will request a workshop with the Council in October or November. With that in mind, we hope to have members of the Council all visit the shelter by the end of September. 5. Discussion and possible action to capture shelter capacity and utilization metrics: M. Simpson Mike asked for 10 minutes at the next meeting to work on this. It is difficult to analyze in part because of housing multiple animals in one run. One idea will be to capture the time period that animals are held before they are available for adoption. As part of this discussion, the idea of a “west” Georgetown location for a satellite facility was raised. 6. Discussion and possible action on list of topics proposed for public education on responsible pet ownership: M. Simpson We need to do holiday education items soon, including pet precautions. We continue to need more volunteers – so that could be a topic – as well as donating to the shelter. 7. Other Items: We will have a joint adoption event at Farm Supply in late September. This weekend there is an event at Tractor Supply. The meeting was adjourned at 6:47 p.m.
