Classes are held on Tuesdays, and will be offered at two different locations and times: Georgetown Police Department Training Room, 809 Martin Luther King, Jr. Street, 7 – 9 p.m. COPS office, Sun City Fire Station, 10 a.m. to noon Topics covered in the Academy include training, communication, support services, patrol, and nar- cotics, as well as other aspects of police work. Participants will learn through lectures, demonstrations, and tours. for new “I enjoyed being a part of the Citizen Police Academy because it shows you both sides of how the law works,” says Academy graduate Yvette Rose. “You will be amazed at what you can learn by attending theses classes—it’s gives you a whole different respect for our law enforcement officers.” The registration deadline is March 15. Class is held each Tuesday from March 22 until May 24. An application is available at www.georgetown.org. Return the completed application to Officer Jack Lacy at the Georgetown Police Department. Openings of more than 50 other stores, restaurants, and shops at Wolf Ranch are set to follow. The retail center is owned by Simon Property Group, a shopping mall developer and property man- agement company headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. In November Simon announced plans for Wolf Lakes, a second project in Georgetown to be built north of Wolf Ranch. Located at the northwest corner of I-35 and University Ave., Wolf Lakes will include retail, entertainment, restaurants, and perhaps residential and office uses. Simon has not yet announced other details about the 145-acre project. Parks and Recreation Spring Break Camps March 14 – 18 Camp Goodwater is a day camp for youth ages 5 – 12. The camp is held at the Community Center in San Gabriel Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, with early drop-off and late pick-up available. Cost: $120 residents, $130 non- residents. This year’s camp will be exploring the Texas Hill Country where participants will experience rock climbing, backpacking, horseback riding, kayaking, and tent camping. Annual Moms and Daughters Tea Party Tuesday, March 15, 2 p.m. Community Center in San Gabriel Park Tea-time delicacies and drinks will be furnished, but attendees should bring their own cups, plates, and saucers. Children’s Librarian Rosa Garcia invites you to dress up in vintage clothing and come pre- pared to entertain with your special talent. You can sing a song, play your musical instrument, recite a poem or monologue, or do some- thing we’ve not yet considered. Judith Fox will play her Celtic harp. Art Day Wednesday, March 16, 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Georgetown Public Library Use the library’s art supplies and get creative around the theme of this year’s summer reading pro- gram, which is “Go Wild— READ!” The original art that is created on Art Day will be used to decorate the Children’s Room dur- ing the summer reading program. Library Spring Break Events Talent Show Thursday, March 17, 10:30 a.m. Georgetown Public Library Entertainers of all ages are invited to show off their talent (especially the gentlemen who missed out on a chance to perform at the tea party). Play the piano, bark like a dog, stand on your head, do bird calls—here’s your chance for a minute or two of fame! Open Night at the Rec March 11 Georgetown high schoolers are invited to a Friday teen night called “Open Night at the Rec” on March 11. The theme is Tournament Night, featuring tournament play and prizes for ping pong, pool, basketball, and board games. The Recreation Center will be open from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. for the event. Grades 9 –12 are welcome with a Georgetown High School ID card, and admission is free. No re-entry is allowed. This drug- and alcohol-free event is sponsored by Georgetown Parks and Recreation, the Georgetown Youth Advisory Board, and The Georgetown Project as part of the Guiding Healthy Choices Program.
