The 2nd annual Up the Chisholm Trail event, sponsored by the Williamson County Historical Museum, recognizes Georgetown’s location on the historic Chisholm Trail, as well as Williamson VOL.5 • NO.9 A Publication of the City of Georgetown September 2007 $8,000 Check for Facade Fund A check for $8,000 for the Facade and Sign Grant Fund was presented to the Main Street Advisory Board at their July meeting. The money represents the proceeds from a May 18 dinner and dance fundraiser held as part of the Georgetown Main Street program’s 25th anniversary. The fundraiser and other events were sponsored by the City and the Georgetown Heritage Society. The funds will be used for Facade and Sign Grants to reimburse historic downtown building owners for improvements to building exteriors. On Saturday, events begin at 8 a.m. at San Gabriel Park and continue on the downtown Square until 9:30 p.m. In addition to the cattle drive, come hear live cowboy music and see a trick-roping show, as well as Western craft exhibitors and chuck- wagon displays. Learn about our cowboy heritage from Western authors, historical trail drive re-enac- tors, and exhibits by modern-day cattle-raisers. Trash, recycling, Collection Station New contract with TDS begins Sept. 10 96-gal. 65-gal. or 36-gal. cart Art for Animals 2007 A Chocolate Affair A benefit for homeless animals in Georgetown called Art for Animals 2007 – A Chocolate Affair will feature fabulous chocolate desserts and coffees. The event will be held on Sept 30 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Community Center at San Gabriel Park. The event is a joint fundraiser sponsored by the Georgetown Animal Shelter and Georgetown Animal Outreach. Art for Animals will start with a concert by a quartet from Southwestern University from 2 to 3 p.m. Both silent and live auctions at the event will include paintings, ceramics, pottery, quilts, and other hand-crafted items, as well as a variety of items from local businesses. Unique artwork made by the animals from the shelter also will be auctioned. Proceeds from the Art for Animals event will be used to fund the cost of building a new screened porch for the cats at the shelter, low-cost spay or neuter services by GAO, and other services for homeless animals at the City of Georgetown Animal Shelter. For tickets or to make a donation to the auction, contact the Georgetown Animal Shelter at (512) 930-3592. In June, the Georgetown City Council approved a new five-year contract with Texas Disposal Systems for environmental services. The contract includes curbside resi- dential trash collection and recy- cling, commercial trash collection and recycling options, bulky waste and brush pickup, and operation of the City’s Collection Station at 250 W.L. Walden Drive.
