These items often will be labeled with words such as caution, toxic, poison, corrosive, or danger. Examples include aerosol spray cans, antifreeze, fluorescent lights tubes, household cleaners, lithium batteries, mercury thermometers, motor oil or transmission fluid, paints and stains, pesticides and poisons, pool and spa chemicals, thinners and solvents, and vehicle batteries. Paws for Mardi Gras Dog Walk on March 26 The third annual Paws for Mardi Gras dog walk will be held on Saturday, March 26 in San Gabriel Park. The route is one lap around the hike and bike trail in the park and starts and ends at the gazebo. Paws for Mardi Gras is a family- friendly event that begins with a Blessing of the Pets at 10 a.m., rain or shine. Wear your goofiest human and canine costumes for a parade and costume contest that starts at the gazebo after the dog walk. There will be prizes for the biggest dog, small- est dog, best person costume, best dog costume, and best dog trick. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the event at the gazebo in San Gabriel Park, or register online at paws.georgetown.org. You also can register at the Georgetown Animal Shelter, located at 110 W.L. Walden Drive. Entrants receive a Paws for Mardi Gras T- shirt, a bandana for each dog, and Mardi Gras beads for people and dogs. Proceeds benefit the shelter. Proper disposal of these items will ensure that solid waste workers are not harmed and that groundwater is not contaminated. To dispose of these items safely, request a household hazardous waste voucher at recycle.georgetown.org. Vouchers allow City residents to dispose of these items at no cost or reduced cost at the Williamson County Recycle Center located on County Road 156 northeast of Georgetown. Go to recycle.georgetown.org for details. Garage Sale Signs Pet Projects Residents holding a garage sale are allowed to put up signs to direct people to a sale. One sign can placed on your property where the garage sale is to be held, and with the permission of the other proper- ty owners, up to two signs may be placed on private property not more than 1,000 feet from your house. Garage sale signs should not exceed four square feet and no attachments to signs are allowed, such as balloons or streamers. Garage sale signs should be placed at least ten feet back from the curb or pavement. Signs should not be placed on public property or in the road right-of-way easement, in road medians, or in the line-of-sight at intersections. Signs should not be attached to utility poles, street signs, or traffic signs. Signs should not be posted more than 24 hours prior to the begin- ning of the sale and should be removed within 24 hours after the sale. Free Spay or Neuter Clinics for Cats The Georgetown Animal Shelter will host free spay or neuter clinics for free-roaming cats (cats that go out- side) on March 19 and April 9. Appointments are required on a first-come, first-served basis. Call the Animal Shelter to make an appoint- ment at (512) 930-3592. Space is limited. This is definitely not legal. For the second time in three years, the Georgetown Teen Court has won the Spotlight Award from the Teen Court Association of Texas. Each year, the award is given to the best of 75 teen court programs in Teen Court Takes Spotlight Again the state that have shown the most progress, innovation, and achieve- ment. The Georgetown Teen Court program, currently in its eighteenth year, this year has 18 jurors and 23 attorneys who try cases before Municipal Court Judge Randall Stump. Georgetown Parks and Recreation is offering several spring break camps, including Camp Goodwater, Fencing Camp, Junior Tennis Academy, Krav Maga Junior Camp, Sports Spectacular Camp, Teen Adventure Camp, Teen Speed and Agility Training Camp, and a Tennis Camp. Lyle will be featured in the poster for the 2011 Red Poppy Festival. Lyle paints and teaches classes in her studio in Round Rock. Her work has been exhibited in dozens of galleries and venues across Central Texas and can be seen on her website at patricia- lyle.com.
