The new 96-gallon carts will replace the 18-gallon square bins. Acceptable items will be expanded to include plastics numbers 1 – 7, corrugated cardboard, paperboard (e.g., cereal boxes), and plastic bags. Other acceptable recyclables include newspapers, magazines, office paper, glass bottles, and metal cans. New recycling carts will be delivered to customers October 15 – 30 with information cards on new services and collection schedules. Solid Waste Pickup One 96-gallon cart will be picked up once each week. The cart and collection frequency are unchanged. Some customers will move to a new collection day. Information cards will be delivered with new single-stream recycling carts for customers moving to a new collection day. Solid waste collection (household trash) is limited to material in collection cart plus two additional bags at the curb. Customers may purchase Bag Tags from the City for $5 each to put on additional bags. Yard Trimmings Program This new seasonal collection program for City of Georgetown residents will be offered every- other-week in the fall and the spring: In the fall, every-other-week collections start on the first Monday in November and end on the second Friday in January. ty services, the monthly fee increases from $17 to $22. Residential customers will receive new 96-gallon carts for single- stream recycling in October. Information cards will be attached to the new carts showing specific collection schedules for each neigh- borhood. Some customers will move to a new collection day. Customers will continue to use their existing carts for regular solid waste. Curbside pickup of single-stream recycling and yard trimmings will be on alternating weeks. New solid waste curbside services, including single-stream recycling in one rolling cart and a new seasonal yard trimmings collection, begin in November. These services should significantly increase the volume of material diverted from the landfill and recycled into new products, including compost or mulch. For residential customers in the City of Georgetown, the new monthly solid waste fee increases on October 1 from $14.35 to $16. For residen- tial customers outside city limits with other City of Georgetown utili- Single-Stream Recycling Yard Trimmings Program In the spring, every-other-week collections start on the first Monday in March and end on the last Friday in May. Material must be in bundles or compostable kraft paper bags, available at local hardware stores. Bundles should be no more than four feet in length and no more than 35 pounds. Use string or twine for bundles. Maximum of 20 bags or bundles per collection. Customers may purchase Bag Tags from City for $5 each for additional bags during the season. Other solid waste services for City of Georgetown residents include curbside bulky waste pickup (by appointment two times each year) and household hazardous waste vouchers. See recycle.georgetown.org for details or call TDS at (512) 930-1715. Commercial solid waste services for commercial customers inside the Georgetown city limits are mandatory. Service choices include 96-gallon rolling carts or front-load dumpsters ranging in size from two-yard to 10-yard and emptied from one to seven times per week. Commercial recycling is open market. New fees and services are effective on October 1 at the Collection Station at 250 W.L. Walden Drive. Free mulch is available at the Collection Station for residential customers who live in the City of Georgetown. There are no other Collection Station services included in the monthly garbage rate. Garden-Ville will continue to sell garden and lawn products at the Collection Station. It’s all happening at the third annual Georgetown Airfest at the Georgetown Municipal Airport on Saturday, November 3. The hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Featured aircraft include the Southern Cross C-47, a military ver- sion of a DC-3. Take your family for a ride in this historic aircraft built in 1941 and used as a troop carrier and paratroop trainer in WWII. Back by popular demand, see the MI-24 Hind Soviet attack helicopter and the L-39 Albatross, a Czech military trainer. Main Street’s 30thAnniversary Dinner, November 14 The 30th anniversary celebration of the Georgetown Main Street Program will be a community event from 6 to 9 p.m. Served at a harvest table outdoors on Main Street on the east side of the Courthouse Square, the dinner honors all those in the community who have helped to preserve Georgetown’s historic architecture November Events Other aircraft include a Vietnam-era Huey helicopter and the WWII-era Devil Dog B-25 bomber, Georgetown’s signature warbird. Watch formation fly-overs by Falcon Flight, radio-controlled aircraft demonstrations, and see many other planes on display on the taxiway. Rides in many planes will be offered for a fee. Youth may be able to fly at no cost with the EAA Young Eagles program. Admission to the AirFest is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring a canned food donation for The Caring Place. Georgetown AirFest on November 3 A limited edition collectible brass Christmas ornament featuring the Georgetown Firehouse and Old City Hall, as well as a vintage Georgetown fire truck, goes on sale November 1. Other collectible ornaments from previous years are also available. The sixth annual ornament sale is a project of the Georgetown Main Street Program. The cost of the Collectible Christmas Ornament ornament is $20 plus tax and all proceeds will be used for the “Light Up the Square” cam- paign to help add more holiday lighting in downtown. Ornaments can be purchased online at mainstreet.georgetown.org or at the Visitors Center at 103 E. Seventh Street.
