Thebookisahandwrittenrecordof citycouncilmeetingminutes,reso- lutions,ordinances,andotherbusi- nesswithentriesfrom1878through 1884.Eachentrywaswrittenin ornatescriptwithafountainpen. Theoriginalwornbindingonthe volumewasremovedandeachpage wascleaned,chemicallytreatedto de-acidifythepaper,andencapsulat- edinarchivalgradepolyester envelopestopreventdeterioration. Thepageswereboundinafire resistantmetalcase. RobynRye,recordscoordinator withtheCitySecretary’soffice,says shewasawareofthesignificant responsibilityofsendingtheunique historicalvolumetothepreservation companyinDallas.“Ifeltlikea momsendingakidtosummer camp,”shesays.Othernineteenth- centuryCityrecordbookswillbe similarlypreserved.
