Open discussion of Animal Shelter and Animal Services operations and marketing. Researching Smart Phone applications for the shelter. Jerry suggested looking into a Smart Phone Application to create an animal shelter app showing adoptable animals. Channel 10 schedule time to show more adoptable animals, more aggressive use of time. Discussion of usage of phone apps, Channel 10 for listing of events, special pricing, etc. 8. 3 Days of Controversy There were two dogs in question. Tilsta and Angus. Tilsta was a black lab/pit mix that was re-tested for behavior due to her jumping up and snapping at people. She failed and the decision was to euthanize her. Angus was a Austrailian Shepherd who was adopted out and returned 3 weeks later for attacking the owner's cats. Angus tried to bite ACO Max Mixson and was also aggressive toward the animal technicians. The shelter manager, Jackie Carey, told some of the volunteers who knew Angus that the decision to euthanize him had been made. One volunteer became very upset, went home and posted on face book that the shelter was going to euthanize animals that were adoptable. The volunteer was asked to resign which she did. The story went viral with agencies all over the country responding and willing to take Angus to avoid him being euthanized . Decision to have Angus evaluated by Triple Crown, Training by Tara, and another dog behavioral specialist prior to having him euthanized. Assistant Chief, Cory Tchida suggested that we have a SOP for handling issues like this going forward. A suggestion that we have a Best Practices for animals that fail behavior testing. Chief Nero did respond on face book and addressed the issues. Next meeting, Thursday, December 13, 2012 6 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 6:49 p.m.. Respectfully submitted, Christine Albanese
