APPROVE MINUTES Motion by Joyce Gadison and seconded by Roger Pefta to approve minutes of the meeting held on June 10, 1993 with corrections as noted. Motion carried by unanimous vote. II. Approve Leadership Georgetown Project "San Gabriel Park Christmas Lights." Marvin Waley went over "Trail of Christmas Lights" proposed through San Gabriel Parks. Volunteers (40 -45) will man the project and provide labor for actual development and set -up. Funding is being provided through private and business contributions. The time period is proposed at 22 days with an electric bill of approximately $300 to $350. There was a lengthy discussion concerning safety, liability, and traffic flow. Recommendation to council to accept this project in the park with the appropriate liability and electricity bill being paid by Leadership Georgetown was made by Harold c:\pkboard\juIy93.min McDonald. Motion was seconded by Joyce Gadison. Motion carried by unanimous vote. III. Revised Parks and Recreation Facilities Policy Briefly discussed changes to existing City Ordinance Chapter 12.20. A copy was given to each member to look over before next meeting. Harold McDonald gave a brief overview of the revised community center portion of the ordinance. Approval of the revisions were tabled until next meeting. IV. Adopt -A -Park Brochure The brochures was discussed with recommendations for removing Parks & Recreation Board name on brochure. Robin Hallett would like to re -work the brochure to provide better clarity. She asked for Kathryn Stallard to work on the brochure. The finalization of the brochure was tabled until next meeting. V. Information from Board Members Ronda Seagraves - What happened to G.Y.R.A. group? There was a brief discussion and Roger Pena agreed to call and check on them. How is the playscape progressing? Robin Hallett gave a report saying that $800 had been raised with a $5,000 commitment for lumber being provided by McCoys. They did 2 fund raisers and have a large fund raiser planned in San Gabriel Park in the fall. At this time they have set the week of November 15th as their build date with approximately $10,000 raised. Joyce Gadison - Would like to know what happened to one of the picnic tables at Kelly Park. The parents request that the one that has been removed be replaced and if possible more tables be put in Kelly Park. There was a brief discussion regarding the possibility of adding benches by the basketball court. Robin Hallett is to check with Randy regarding these suggestions. Robin Hallett - Called the boards attention to a couple of items in the board packet. An updated board list is attached to these minutes as corrected by the board members. In addition, each of you has received a copy of the updated bylaws which include the change of time and place for the board meeting. Derek Timourian left his position with the city and today was his last day. Derek is going to be a great loss for the Parks and Recreation Department. His efforts were instrumental in the city receiving the Gold Medal for Parks and Recreation and in programming recreation classes. c: \pkboard \ju1y93.min Planning and Zoning meetings were discussed including the way there meetings are run and the procedures under which they operate. Robin suggested that maybe each board member sit in on one of their meetings to see how they address procedural events and how the staff interacts with the board members. Parkland dedication rules and regulations were discussed and each board member was encouraged to review this in the City bylaws. VI.
