Motion approved 4-0. 3. Airport Manager’s Report: May 2009 Monthly Income and Expense Reports Travis McLain : Business has been slow and May Avgas sales were 7.86% below the five year average but jet fuel is down 21.65% from the previous five year average. Bad news is that the price has gone crazy; since April 28, 2009 our Avgas costs have gone up 0.68 a gallon and our jet fuel costs has gone up almost .50 a gallon. Last week Avgas price went to $3.70 per gallon and this Friday, June 19, 2009 will increase to $3.80 per gallon. Report on Noise Study and Master Plan Update Travis McLain: No report. Report on Council Actions Travis McLain : On May 26, 2009 Council passed a resolution formally requesting a TxDOT grant for the obstruction removal to Runway 36 and 29 and various taxiway rehab work. Report on Airport Construction Projects Travis McLain : The new fence is up and the old fence is down. The only thing left is the tree removal project (has a few left) to be finished in a couple of weeks. Control Tower Radar Display Travis McLain : Reviewed letter from the FAA that indicates radar service will be provided at the Tower within the next twelve months. Improvements to Terminal Drive Travis McLain : TxDOT is preparing the plans and specs to go for bid. 4. Consideration and possible action to recommend that Council approve a ten (10) year extension to Cannon Aviation Group Lease for 304 Terminal Drive. Travis McLain : Mr. Cannon has asked for a 10-year extension to Cannon Aviation Group Lease for 304 Terminal Drive. He has done a lot of improvements to the building and plans to do more. T he recommendation would be that in August 2012 he requests a 10-year option or (2) five year options. We have done this with other city-owned hangars (i.e. SR Aviation). Daryl Dressler : Motion to recommend that Council approve a ten (10) year extension t o Cannon Aviation Group Lease for 304 Terminal Drive. Trey Taparauskas: I second the motion. Motion approved 4-0. Motion carried by unanimous vote. 5. Discuss ways to promote aviation and the Georgetown Municipal Airport. Daryl Dressler : What is the objective of having this event, whatever we call it? I do not think we should call it airshow, instead maybe aviation days or airport appreciation day. What are we trying to accomplish here; to raise money for the airport; get the general pu blic to understand what goes on here; show we’re good neighbors; provide entertainment that is aviation related; or something to appeal to younger people interested in aviation? Katherine Woods: I thought the point is to promote aviation in general. Trey Taparauskas : I think the concept is not to raise money for the airport rather to promote aviation and get general interest. Daryl Dressler : There would have to be some nominal fee to people attending because the organizer will not be doing this out of the goodness of their heart. Trey Taparauskas : No, I mean we will not be looking to turn a large profit. John Hopper : I look to educate the general public about the airport. I gave a presentation a few months ago to a civic group and some of the expressions were that they were not aware an airport was even located in Georgetown. The historical aspect of how the airport evolved is important. Trey Taparauskas : I know when we had the Tower grand opening, the secretaries still talk about going up in the Tower and seeing how all that works. Travis McLain : Tours of the Tower need to go directly to Shannon Thomas, Tower Manager for approval. Daryl Dressler : Maybe a radio controlled plane club to do a radio controlled demonstration. I still like the “big band hangar dance” idea. Last year the music fest fell flat for unknown reasons. Trey Taparauskas : We should have some type of planes like static displays like a normal fly-in. George Brown : (Citizen) People do not understand who uses the airport. John Hopper : One of the things that raised eyes was that the Airport is self-sufficient and has been around 30-40 years. Daryl Dressler : I will look into this further. I will also talk to Beth Jenkins. Scott Cannon : (Cannon Aviation Group) If we have such an event, I will volunteer facilities for the event. We are interested in involving youth in aviation. Tray Taparauskas: Why not an Air Expo? John Sommerfeld : (Citizen) You will need a “drawing card” to draw people in, such as plane rides, flying lessons, helicopter rides, radio controlled displays, and the local news media came out and weather demonstrations. Scott Cannon : (Cannon Aviation Group) Everyday we see people come out and visit the airport and sit watching planes, if there was a day once a year where there could be a focal point on aviation and additional opportunities. Daryl Dressler : I will study all this and before our next meeting have a plan. 6. Discuss Airport Business Plan. Travis McLain : Van Chandler is not able to be here tonight and asked that we table this item until the July meeting. 7. Consideration and possible action for setting Agenda Items for the July 20, 2009, meeting. Agenda item(s) for the July 20, 2009 meeting: A. Discuss ways to promote aviation. B. Discuss Business Plan for the Airport. 8. Adjourn. Katherine Woods : I make the motion that we adjourn. Daryl Dressler : I second the motion. Motion approved 4-0. Adjourned: 7:35 P.M.
