PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
Special Meeting
June 17, 1997, 6:00 P.M.
Vice-Chair, Cynthia Smith, called the June 17th Planning and Zoning Commission Special Meeting to
order at 6:05 p.m. Other Commissioners present were Cal Wilkerson, Claude Proctor, Patrick Walsh
and Charles Parker. Commissioners Leon Douglas and Robert Brannon were absent. Staff
members present were Hildy Kingma, Chief Development Planner, Wendy Walsh, Development
Planner, Sheree Rabe, Assistant City Attorney and Janis Russell, Recording Secretary.
1. Consideration and possible action on a request to amend the definition of “Residentially Zoned
Property” for Part Three-A of the Zoning Ordinance entitled “Special Permits and Restricted
Uses,” relating to Wireless Communication Facilities. Sheree Rabe gave the staff report.
The proposed amendment excludes properties solely developed for streets and related
right-of-way uses from the definition of residentially zoned properties. Michael Crane, agent
for AT&T Wireless Services, addressed the Commission and concurred with staff. After the
discussion, Cal Wilkerson made a motion to approve and recommend to the City Council a
request to amend the definition of Residentially Zoned Property for Part Three-A of the
Zoning Ordinance entitled "Special Permits and Restricted Uses," relating to Wireless
Communication Facilities as submitted. Pat Walsh seconded the motion which passed by a
vote of 5-0.
2. Commissioners’ comments and reports. Patrick Walsh informed the Commission of a
telephone call that he received from Jim Knight of Bury & Pittman, regarding the Campbell
Tract and Shell Road re-alignment as a result of the neighborhood meetings which were held
by Bury & Pittman.
3. Staff comments and reports. Sheree Rabe informed the Commission that she would schedule
an ethics workshop in the near future for the Commission.
Hildy Kingma reminded the Commission of the Drainage Workshop, Thursday, June 19, at
1:00 in the Library Training Room.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
